For some businesses, mobile phones are essential to getting things done, and most of us rely on our mobiles for convenience. In business, a mobile may not be the best way forward.
Here are 3 reasons to switch to business VoIP instead.
1. Your customer fears your mobile number might disappear
SIM cards can be purchased in supermarkets and discount stores for less than £1. Some networks don’t require registration, so you could conceivably use the number anonymously. Some unscrupulous people purchase a number that’s untraceable deliberately, for less than honourable purposes. That’s given mobiles something of a poor reputation in a business setting.
Business VoIP is an inexpensive way to get a ‘real’ geographical number that suggests stability and permanence. Customers are more likely to trust someone whose number will not disappear overnight, and a real geographic number still gives you a degree of prestige.
2. Calling mobiles is still pricey for some people
0800 numbers were originally launched as a marketing tool, since they were always completely free for the caller. Now, telephony is changing, and things aren’t always so cut and dried. One thing’s certain, though: if someone’s ringing from a landline, it will cost them more to ring you on a mobile compared to a landline 01/02 (or 03) number. Mobile to mobile calls can also be expensive, and calling from abroad even more so.
Remove the cost barrier by choosing a business VoIP number instead. You can use 01/02 for a local presence, or choose a non-geographic 03 number if you want to ensure nobody pays over the odds to speak to you. If in doubt, you can buy one of each and have them both pointing to the same place.
3. Mobiles run out of batteries
Mobile technology is a game-changer for business, but longevity is not one of its strong points. At some point, your smartphone will run out of charge. If you’re a heavy user, you might spend part of the day tethered to a power socket, which hardly makes you mobile at all.
The flexibility of business VoIP is its main strength. You can route calls to your extension, then connect to that extension from a variety of places: your phone, your laptop, your desktop or your tablet. Just log out on one device and log in on another. You’ll never run out of power because your VoIP number follows you, whenever you find it most convenient.
